A car that runs on tweets, Facebook likes and instagram shares
A group of tennage students from a non-profit MindDrive, Kansas City has recently re-built a car that runs on social fuel i.e. Facebook likes, instagram shares and twitter tweets. 1967 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia was chosen for this successful experiment which has been converted in to an electric car by replacing its Volkswagen engine.
It might take some time for many of us to believe that technology and innovation has given birth to another miracle of the time in Kansas City. A group of students from Kansan City has designed a car which will run on social fuel which is to say that the car is a social media car and will run on twitter tweet, facebook likes and instagram shares. This is the era when we certainly find a big time scarcity of petrol and other natural resources, and now we have found a car that does not uses these natural resources. It sounds interesting and yet unbelievable.
This social media car is the brain child of Minddrive which is a Kansas City Non Profit organization which is keenly involved in experimental learning with teenagers. The car starts with a social media update which then sends a signal to the small box in the car which lets the car know that it has social fuel and can start running.
The students converted and re-built a 1967 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia into an electric car. Its original Volkswagen engine was replaced by a lithium ion battery pack and an electric motor. After this, the students installed a tablet PC into the car circuitry, which is responsible to monitor the social watts derived from Minddrive’s social media accounts that also includes Twitter, Facebook,Instagram and YouTube and controls the social power flow.
The social media car is powered by the liking Minddrive’s page on facebook, hashtagging MindDrive on Twitter or commenting on Instagram’s photos. Each Facebook likes is equivalent to 1 Watt of energy and each new twitter follower contributes to 5 watts of power. All the facebook likes, instagram shares and twitter tweets gets routed through a dedicated server and therefore, if there is not enough social media fuel, the power gets cut to the engine. SO in order to fuel the car and to keep it running, the users are bound to interact with Minddrive’s social presence which can also be called as a publicity stunt for Mind Drive.
