Yamaha all set to open its 3rd Plant In India

The two-wheeler maker from japan, is all set to open up a new facility that would be formally up and running by the month of MAY. It has been reported for the company who is setting up a plant in Vallam Vadagal in Kancheepuram, with an investment of around INR 1,500 crore to be incurred in stages.

To start with the plant would have a capacity to produce 4.50 lakh units annually that could be increased to over 18 lakh units by 2018.

The plant right now is in the testing phase, the plant would be formally inaugurated in the next month only, as reported by Roy Kurian, Vice president with the Marketing and Sales, with the company. Yamaha India is doing well with two plants already in India, with one at Faridabad in Haryana and Surajpur in Uttar Pradesh. This new plant in Chennai would be its third pant in India.

The opening ceremony of this new plant would be a part of the Global Investor Meet that would also be held in Chennai during this time in the month of May itself and this would add on to the promotion of FDI for Chennai being a preferred destination. According to Kurian, the company has an intention to sell 17 lakh units by 2018, going higher than the current number of 5.50lakhs. The company has a settled, step by step tutorial to reach up to the mark in 2018, they intend to plan 8 lakh units for this year, going up to 11-12 lakh units and later 17 lakh units for sales.

The latest launch from the company, 125 cc Saluto, would be the third product from the company, after the production of 110 cc- scooterettes Ray and Alpha. The company also plans to add up 150 more dealerships, especially in the rural areas, that would be adding on to the current 400 dealerships. The company is expecting to keep a 50:50 ratio between the sales of their scooters and bikes in future.
